Local Beaches

Croyde Beach

Croyde is one of North Devon’s most beautiful beaches, a horse shoe bay of golden sand backed by dunes and lapped by the surf of the Atlantic Ocean.  The beach is popular all year round for surfing and the RNLI man the beach from May until September, throughout the Easter weekend plus October half term.

There are rocks at either end of the beach providing pools full of hidden gems for children to explore.  Low water provides pools for children to splash about in and at high tide collect a myriad of shells dislodged by the incoming surf.  To the far side of the beach the headland of Baggy Point is owned by The National Trust and provides an exhilarating backdrop with pathways for walking.  Enjoy some spectacular views across to Hartland Point and out to Lundy Island.  Pets are allowed here all year round, but only between October and April on the beach.  Enjoy a range of beach activities including swimming, surfing and fishing.  Surfboard and canoe hire are available at the entrance to the beach, plus a range of food outlets, toilets, surf shops, slipway and two ample car parks make Croyde the perfect holiday destination.
Putsborough Sands is renowned as one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches and is very popular for families as it offers vast golden sands with plenty of rock pools for children to explore.  Its good surf and crisp waves makes it a paradise for swimming and surfing alike.  A sizeable car park plus toilets backs onto the beach and a welcoming café offers hot and cold food, ice creams and beach goods, enjoy superb sunsets from this advantage point as you tuck into fish & chips or a steak sandwich.

Saunton Sands is a three mile expanse of golden sands that stretch into the distance towards the Estuary and Westward Ho !

Backed by miles of sand dunes that make up The North Devon Biosphere, a fabulous area for exploring the fauna and flora of the unique dunes system.  To the right of the entrance to the beach the cliffs and rocks of Down End provide hidden caves and pools to explore. The nature of the slope of the beach provides a good swell and line after line of beautiful long slow rolling waves provide an irresistible draw for surfers.  In addition other beach sports activities include Kite Surfing, Kayacking and paddle boarding. With this expanse of beach there is always plenty of room to find a quiet spot to picnic, sunbathe or enjoy walking your dog.

Surfshops, toilets and a large car park are located at the entrance to Saunton Beach plus a bistro with “al fresco” dining.

Woolacombe Sands has been voted one of the world’s best beaches, it is a three mile expanse of wind blown golden sands washed by the Atlantic surf.   Morte Point backs the beach on the far side, it is owned by the National Trust and provides a truly spectacular backdrop of sea vistas, enjoy unequalled walking with your pet out to where many a ship floundered on its reefs.  Woolacombe is ideal for families and provides good surfing and sunbathing.  Lifeguards ensure safe bathing in the summer months.  The beach amenities include surfboard hire, food outlets and surf shops, toilets, two large car parks provide plenty of parking.  Also don't forget Barricane beach further along marine drive with its famous curry shack, featured by the Daily Mail.
